Argon (Ar) is a noble gas with the atomic number 18. It is colorless, odorless, and tasteless and makes up about 0.93% of Earth’s atmosphere. Argon was discovered in 1894 by Lord Rayleigh and Sir William Ramsay. Being chemically inert, it does not easily react with other elements or compounds. Because of this property, Argon is used in light bulbs, welding, and as a protective atmosphere for sensitive materials. It helps prevent oxidation in metal production and is also used in neon lights, where it gives a blue or violet glow.
