What is embryo?
An embryo is the early stage of development of a living organism after fertilization and before it becomes a fetus.
In humans and most animals:
- The embryo forms when a sperm fertilizes an egg, creating a single cell called a zygote.
- This zygote divides and develops into an embryo.
- In humans, the embryo stage lasts up to 8 weeks after fertilization.
- After 8 weeks, it is called a fetus.
