1. What is nuclear fission?

The process of breaking up of the nucleus of a heavy atom into two nearly equal fragments with the release of a large amount of energy is known as nuclear fission.

2. What is nuclear fusion?

The process of combining two or more lighter nuclei to form a heavier and stable nucleus with the release of large amount of energy is known as nuclear fusion.

3. What is radio activity?

The phenomenon of spontaneous emission of highly penetrating radiations by heavy elements is called radio activity.

4. What is thermo nuclear reaction?

The very high temperature released during nuclear fusion reaction is known as thermo nuclear reaction.

5. What is a coolant?

A material used to absorb the heat generated in chain reaction is called coolant. Example heavy water, liquid, sodium.
